The weather wasn’t kind on September 14th but the grey skies and light drizzle didn’t dent the enthusiasm of the singers who turned out to serenade the shoppers during the Sutton Barbershop Festival. We’ve had good feedback from those who attended the vocal workshop and tag-singing session and a very appreciative audience enjoyed the performances from the choruses and quartets at the Secombe Theatre in the evening.
We had lots of enquiries about opportunities to sing as we were out and about and for the men, two local choruses are holding ‘learn to sing’ courses very soon. Capital Chorus, who are based in West Ealing, start on 23rd September and you can see all the details here. The Downsmen (Leatherhead) will be running a six-week course from 23rd October and you can register or get more detail from David on 01372 723 206 or Allan on 0208 642 8104.
Those are the only formal courses taking part soon but any of the choruses who were out and about at the weekend would love to hear from you if you want to find out more about singing, or barbershop. All of the contact details are in our chorus showcase. You can also find out more about barbershop and about other choruses – there are many more! – by visiting the websites of the national barbershop associations. For the men there is BABS, and for the ladies LABBS or Sweet Adelines International – Region 31
It was a very enjoyable day and all of those who took part had a great time introducing their hobby to passers by, teaching songs and tags to new friends and generally having a lot of fun. The big question now is….will we do it again? There’s only one answer to that.
